THE SURROUNDS

Tighnabruaich, along with the adjoining village of Kames, is surrounded by some stunning scenery and provides a remarkably good range of facilities.

These include a two-doctor surgery/pharmacy, a bank, two post offices, fire and police stations, a filling station and two motor engineers. There are two mini-markets, a well-stocked Spar, an antique shop, a hairdresser and an art gallery. A mobile library and a mobile cinema visit regularly.

There are good hotels and eating places nearby including the award-winning An Lochan restaurant and bar just down the road, the Kilfinan Hotel a few miles away and the equally impressive Colintraive Hotel on the way to the Bute ferry.

Dunoon and Rothesay (Isle of Bute) provide wider shopping facilities. Local clubs cater for art, music, horticultural and craft interests amongst others.

The area offers much in the way of outdoor pursuits and is well known for its natural beauty and dramatic scenery.

Ever popular with the sailing fraternity, the area also has much to offer wildlife enthusiasts cormorants, herons, guillemots, seals, dolphins, porpoises and basking sharks have all been observed.

Sea, river and loch fishing are available in the area. In addition, there are a number of commercially run shoots on nearby estates, which also offer stalking by arrangement.

The Kyles of Bute Golf Course at Kames offers a challenging nine hole golf course. There are other courses in nearby Dunoon and three courses on Bute (Rothesay, Port Bannatyne, Kingarth).

Kames also has a sports ground - home to Kyles Athletic shinty team - in addition offering a bookable tennis court (enquire at Kames Post Office) and childrens' play area.

The worlds last sea-going paddle steamer, the Waverley, calls regularly at Tighnabruaich on excursions.

The Kyles of Bute Sailing Club is in the village as well as the Tighnabruaich Sailing School with the RNLI lifeboat station providing reassurance for those out on the water.

Under two hours from Glasgow, and set in some of the most beautiful scenery to be found in Scotland, Allt Beag offers everything from complete relaxation to a very active holiday.
